Have you ever got excited about a book idea and started typing it out, only to be derailed one week later by a feeling of dread. Or maybe when you simply think about it you feel like “ugh”? Looks like you’ve got the case of a writers block, and it may not even be because of a lack of ideas! We have five ways to motivate you to pick up your story again and start writing! You ready? Let’s go!
1. Take a break
This may seem like an obvious one but few think of it as an option. When you take a break from writing you may come up with inspiration for your story which could break your writer’s block. One suggestion would be going out in nature, traveling, playing games, and other activities you enjoy. Remember, even mundane tasks such as washing plates could give you a spark of imagination.
2. Read other people’s books
For some of you this may be hard, why? People may like to write but NOT read. However, I find this method very helpful, and it has worked plenty of times for me! Why read other people books to get out of your writer block? Books have plenty of creative plots and scenes, you can even adapt their characters to your own novel. One example that puts this in practice is finding a scene you like in the book, then creating your own unique rendition of it, make sure not to copy but instead tailor it to your book! Good books can give you a feel of what your book should be like and what elements must be included to make a book good.
3. Create the scenes that you like the most
If your stuck on a certain point of your story you may want to try creating scenes in the book that excite you the most,-no matter what point of the book they occur in middle or end-like a scene that you’ve been dying to write about your characters playing volleyball at the beach. As long you like then write it!
4. Make cover art for your story
If you’re good at drawing and art this can be an awesome way to get you inspired! Not only does it help you to grasp your characters more, it can help you get back on track with your story.
5. Share your story
This is the best way to motivate yourself, I do it all the time. When you see people read your story, and you get interested in it yourself. That burst of energy and pride leads you to not only feel inspired, but you may get some helpful feedback. Writing alone can make you feel monotone, but when you collaborate with more people it brings out the joy in writing. After all isn’t the point of writing to share it with others?
