Art is beautiful. That’s a FACT. It’s not just the end result of drawing, but the process! In this post I’ll show you how to make a drawing like the picture above on Kleki. Well, let’s get started!

Step 1: Reference

Firstly, I found a reference picture on scratch! Here’s the information of this amazing artist who made it: WippedCream002 on Scratch. Go follow them!

Step 2: Sketching based on the reference

This is my SKETCH. Do you like it HUH, HUH? Just kidding! First, add a layer on top of the default white one, name it “sketch”. Next, look back and forth at the reference picture while drawing. It’s important to have patience when replicating drawings, it took me a while.

Step 3: “Line Art”

Add another layer and name it “line art”, use this layer to draw over the “sketch”.You can see the sketching if you look at the picture. It’s at a lower opacity which means it’s more faded. To do this drag the slide at the bottom of the “sketch” layer to the left . The line art makes the sketchy lines defined. My line art looks like this, TA DA! It’s time to go on to coloring!!!

Step 4: Coloring

To start coloring I used a gradient background color. (You can use whatever background color you like), and added a reference light source up to the right. This light source helped me decide where to make the colors bright, or dark. Second, I colored the face, eyes, hair, etc all in their separate base colors. Third, I went in and added a little shading to the hair and other elements of the drawing. Some examples are a shadow under the chin, and the darker colors in the hair.

Step 5: “Hard core” shading

For this step I went online and searched up all kinds of shading tutorials to master the shading above. I added different colors to the hair, some highlights, and decorated the inside of the eye. If you have other ideas on shading, try them out. Go ahead and experiment with your techniques!

Step 6: Background details

I added stripes to the background just for fun! You can also add new patterns or accessories to your drawing. Some ideas are dots, a bright light to the side, or even making your drawing black and white!

Step 7: An optional extra step

I played around a little with the settings in Kleki and created a whole different drawing. Now it looks like the girl is staring at her reflection! You can do the same if you choose!
